JK Tyre Prodigy, Armaan Ebrahim makes a good opening finishing in the Points in Rd 1 of the Indy Racing Series in the Indy Lites Car in St Petersurg - Florida
Armaan in his first stint with the Indy Cars had a good race finishing overall in 8th place in the gruelling 45 lap race. A new car, new team and a new street circuit was a challenging task as an opening race for the Chennai born youngster. Practise and Qualifying was hampered with continuous brake problems which persisted through the entire race. Putting that behind him and accepting the car for what it was, Armaan picked up the pace as the race progressed and moved up from 14th to 8th place when the checkered flag went down. There were 3 full yellows during the race and Armaan made 3 good restarts when the flag went green which helped climbing up the ladder gaining important points.
Being the 1st Indian to race in the Indy Series, Armaan had a huge fan support and the JK Tyre Sponsored car was surrounded by many spectators. The grid comprised of very experienced drivers from Europe, America and Mexico having driven in various Championships across the globe.
"It was always going to be a difficult opening Round as I need to get used to the Indy Lites car which is very different from the GP2 and F2 cars that I have driven. With a stick shift 6 speed sequential gearbox and a heavy engine at the back, the characteristics of the car is very different and it does require a lot of testing to adapt yourself to it. However, I am quite pleased with the result given the fact that we have had just two days of testing at a different circuit last week and also given the brake problems that we had throughout practise, qualifying and the race. We can only gain from this and move forward." commented Armaan.
Co Owner, Tyce Carlson, former Indy 500 driver commented : "It is great to have Armaan on board with our team Fan Force United. We are a small team but are very confident that by the end of the year we will right up there in the Championship if not winning it. We are trying to add more value to Armaan and to the Team. Our goal is to get Armaan into the Indy Racing League and the Indy 500 along with us. Though so young, his experience and his driving skills brings in all that we wanted from a driver to the Team"
The next race is at the Barber Racing Circuit in Alabama-Birmingham the coming week. Having topped the time sheets at the Barber test, one can look forward to a cracker of a race
